Canna × generalis Roma Bulb | Yellow & Orange Canna Lily

Product Details

Create a bold tropical display with Canna × generalis ‘Roma’, a classic Canna Lily variety grown for its lush green foliage and bright yellow flowers marked with warm orange tones. With its upright growth, large leaves and colourful summer flowers, Roma is ideal for adding height, structure and a tropical feel to garden beds, borders, large pots and landscape plantings.

Often called Canna Lily, this plant is not a true lily, but it is loved for its strong garden presence and exotic appearance. Roma is a beautiful choice for gardeners wanting a reliable, old-style canna with fresh green foliage and warm yellow-orange blooms.

This variety works well as a feature plant, planted in groups for a fuller display, or used through tropical-style gardens where bold foliage and seasonal colour are wanted. Its bright flowers stand beautifully above the foliage, creating a vibrant garden effect through the warmer months.

Supplied as a bulb/rhizome, Canna Roma is easy to grow in suitable conditions and performs best in a sunny to lightly shaded position with regular moisture during active growth.

Planting & Care

Plant Canna Roma in a position with full sun to semi-shade. Full sun generally encourages stronger flowering, while semi-shade can be helpful in hotter regions.

Choose fertile soil that holds some moisture but still drains well. Cannas enjoy regular moisture during active growth and are especially useful in warm garden positions where lush foliage and strong colour are wanted.

Plant the bulb/rhizome approximately 5–10cm deep, with the growing points facing upward. Space plants around 50–70cm apart, depending on how full you want the display to be.

Water well after planting, then water regularly during active growth. Canna Lilies perform best with consistent moisture through the warmer months, especially when grown in pots or exposed garden positions.

Feed during spring and summer with a balanced fertiliser to support strong foliage and flowering. Regular feeding helps encourage lush leaves and a better flower display.

Remove spent flowers and old foliage to keep plants looking tidy. In warm climates, Cannas may remain evergreen or semi-evergreen. In cooler climates, the foliage may die back over winter before reshooting when conditions warm again.

Mulch around the base of the plant to help retain moisture, protect the root zone and reduce temperature stress.

Flowering Time

Warm climates: Spring to autumn
Cool climates: Summer to autumn
