Canna × generalis Tropicanna® Gold Bulb | Variegated Canna Lily

Product Details

Add bright tropical colour and bold foliage contrast to your garden with Canna × generalis Tropicanna® Gold, a striking Canna Lily variety grown for its green and gold striped foliage and warm golden-yellow to orange flowers. With its upright growth, vibrant leaves and colourful seasonal blooms, Tropicanna® Gold makes a beautiful feature plant for garden beds, large pots, tropical-style plantings and bold mixed borders.

Often called Canna Lily, this plant is not a true lily, but it is loved for its strong garden presence, lush foliage and exotic appearance. Tropicanna® Gold brings colour even before it flowers, with decorative foliage that adds structure and brightness throughout the growing season.

This variety works beautifully as a feature plant, grouped in mass plantings, or planted alongside other Cannas such as Tropicanna® and Tropicanna® Black for a high-impact foliage display. Its golden striped leaves and warm flowers make it especially useful for brightening tropical gardens, poolside plantings and large container displays.

Supplied as a dormant bulb/rhizome, Tropicanna® Gold is easy to grow in suitable conditions and performs best in a sunny to lightly shaded position with regular moisture and feeding during active growth.

Planting & Care

Plant Canna Tropicanna® Gold in a position with full sun to semi-shade. Full sun generally encourages stronger flowering and the best foliage colour, while semi-shade can be helpful in hotter regions.

Choose fertile soil that holds some moisture but still drains well. Cannas enjoy regular moisture during active growth and are especially useful in warm garden positions where lush foliage and strong colour are wanted.

Plant the bulb/rhizome approximately 5–10cm deep, with the growing points facing upward. Space plants around 50–70cm apart, depending on how full you want the display to be.

Water well after planting, then water regularly during active growth. Canna Lilies perform best with consistent moisture through the warmer months, especially when grown in pots or exposed garden positions.

Feed during spring and summer with a balanced fertiliser to support strong foliage and flowering. Regular feeding helps encourage lush leaves, strong stems and a better flower display.

Remove spent flowers and old foliage to keep plants looking tidy. In warm climates, Cannas may remain evergreen or semi-evergreen. In cooler climates, the foliage may die back over winter before reshooting when conditions warm again.

Mulch around the base of the plant to help retain moisture, protect the root zone and reduce temperature stress.

Warm climates: Spring to autumn
Cool climates: Summer to autumn
