Description
Bring repeat colour to garden beds, borders and pots with Encore® Autumn Jewel™ Azalea, a hardy Rhododendron hybrid known for its vibrant pink flowers, glossy foliage and dense spreading growth.
Autumn Jewel™ produces single pink flowers approximately 50mm across, with strong flowering displays in spring and autumn and additional flowers through summer. Its glossy green foliage develops attractive deep purple tones during winter, adding interest even when the plant is not in full bloom.
Growing to approximately 1m high and 1m wide, this medium-sized Azalea works beautifully as a feature shrub, low hedge, garden border or mass planting.
Autumn Jewel™ is more tolerant of sun, heat and cold than many traditional Azaleas. It performs well in full sun to part shade when supplied with free-draining soil, mulch and regular moisture while becoming established.
Plant Size Note
Supplied as a young plant in a 42mm pot.
Plants in 42mm pots are small starter plants and will require growing time before reaching the mature size shown in example images.
Plants may not be flowering when dispatched. Size, shape and seasonal appearance will vary between individual plants.

Planting & Care
Plant Autumn Jewel™ Azalea in full sun to part shade.
Although it is more sun tolerant than many traditional Azaleas, protection from harsh afternoon sun can be beneficial in very hot or exposed locations.
Choose fertile, free-draining soil. Avoid positions where water remains around the root system after rain.
When planting, position the root ball slightly above the surrounding soil level. This can help prevent excess moisture collecting around the crown and roots.
Water thoroughly after planting and maintain regular moisture during the first year while the plant establishes. Once mature, Autumn Jewel™ develops improved tolerance to short dry periods, but additional watering will still be beneficial during extended hot or dry weather.
Apply a layer of chunky mulch around the plant to help retain moisture, suppress weeds and protect the shallow root system. Keep mulch slightly away from the main stem.
Apply a suitable slow-release fertiliser for Azaleas and other acid-loving plants during spring if required. Always follow the fertiliser directions and avoid overfeeding young plants.
Prune lightly after the main spring flowering flush to maintain shape and encourage dense growth. Avoid heavy pruning late in the season, as this may remove developing flower buds.
Flowering Time
Autumn Jewel™ is a repeat-flowering Azalea.
It generally produces:
- Heavy flowering during spring
- Additional flowers through summer
- Another strong flowering display during autumn
Exact flowering times and flower numbers will vary with climate, plant maturity, seasonal conditions and care.
Landscape Uses
Autumn Jewel™ is suitable for:
- Feature and specimen planting
- Garden beds and mixed borders
- Low informal hedging
- Mass planting
- Entrance gardens
- Courtyards and patios
- Large pots and containers
- Cottage-style gardens
- Shaded or partly shaded garden areas
For mass planting, allow approximately 1–3 plants per square metre, depending on the desired coverage and spacing.
Growing in Pots
Autumn Jewel™ can be grown in pots and containers.
Choose a pot with clear drainage holes and use a quality potting mix suitable for Azaleas, Camellias and other acid-loving plants.
Do not plant into an oversized pot immediately. Move the young plant gradually into larger containers as the root system develops.
Container-grown plants dry more quickly than plants in the ground, so check moisture regularly during warm or windy conditions.
