    Description

Enjoy the colour and fragrance of a Yesterday Today Tomorrow shrub in a more compact form with Brunfelsia ‘Sweet and Petite’.

This tidy evergreen shrub produces fragrant flowers that open rich purple, fade through lilac and eventually mature to white. Because the blooms change colour over several days, plants can display purple, mauve and white flowers at the same time.

‘Sweet and Petite’ grows to approximately 80cm–1m high and 65–80cm wide, making it much easier to place than larger traditional Brunfelsia varieties. It is ideal for small gardens, low informal hedges, mixed borders, entrance gardens and decorative pots near patios or outdoor entertaining areas where its fragrance can be enjoyed.

    Plant Size Note

Supplied as a young plant in a 42mm pot.

Plants supplied in 42mm pots are small starter plants and will require growing time before reaching the mature size shown in example images.

Plants may not be flowering when dispatched. Size, shape, branching and seasonal appearance will vary between individual plants.

    Planting & Care

Plant Brunfelsia ‘Sweet and Petite’ in full sun to part shade.

In hot climates, morning sun with protection from harsh afternoon sun can help keep the foliage looking fresh and reduce heat stress. A position with good light will generally encourage stronger flowering.

Choose fertile, free-draining soil enriched with compost or well-rotted organic matter. Avoid locations where water remains around the roots after rain.

Water thoroughly after planting and maintain regular moisture while the plant establishes. Once established, allow the upper soil layer to begin drying slightly between watering, while avoiding prolonged dry conditions during hot weather.

Apply a suitable slow-release fertiliser during spring to encourage healthy foliage and flowering. Always follow the fertiliser directions, particularly when feeding young plants.

Mulch around the root zone to help retain moisture and reduce weeds, keeping mulch slightly away from the main stem.

Lightly prune after a major flowering flush to maintain its compact shape and encourage fresh branching. Avoid heavy or repeated pruning while flower buds are developing.

Protect young plants from frost. In cooler climates, grow in a warm sheltered position or in a pot that can be moved under protection during cold weather.

    Flowering Time

‘Sweet and Petite’ generally flowers from spring through autumn in warm climates.

The flowers open purple, fade to lilac and mature to white, producing the characteristic three-colour appearance associated with Yesterday Today Tomorrow plants.

Flowering time and abundance will vary depending on climate, plant maturity, sunlight and seasonal conditions.

    Growing in Pots

This compact variety is well suited to pots and containers.

Choose a container with drainage holes and use a quality free-draining potting mix. Move the young plant gradually into larger pots as its root system develops rather than planting it immediately into an excessively large container.

Container-grown plants may require more frequent watering during hot or windy weather.

Position flowering pots near patios, entrances or outdoor seating areas where the changing flowers and fragrance can be appreciated.
