    Planting Instructions

Choose a position ranging from full sun to heavy shade.

Dig a hole slightly wider than the root ball and plant at the same depth as the existing growing medium. Backfill gently, firm the soil around the roots and water thoroughly.

For dense coverage, plant approximately 6–10 plants per square metre. When creating a border or lineal planting, allow approximately 3–5 plants per linear metre.

Apply a layer of chunky mulch around the plants to retain moisture and reduce weed growth. Keep mulch slightly clear of the crown.

    Care Instructions

    Position

Amethyst™ Liriope grows in full sun, moderate shade or heavy shade.

Plants grown in sunnier positions may require more regular watering, particularly during hot weather. In warmer climates, some protection from intense afternoon sun can help maintain attractive foliage.

    Soil

This variety adapts to a wide range of soil types, including:

    • Sandy soils
    • Loams
    • Clay soils
    • Improved garden soils

Good soil preparation and drainage will encourage faster establishment. Avoid planting the crown too deeply or allowing it to remain continually submerged.

    Watering

Water as required for approximately 8–13 weeks after planting while the root system establishes.

Once established, Amethyst™ has good drought tolerance. Occasional deep watering during extended dry periods will help maintain greener, fuller foliage.

Container-grown plants will require more frequent watering than plants growing in the ground.

    Feeding

Apply a suitable slow-release fertiliser during spring.

Additional feeding may be provided when required, following the product label directions. Avoid placing concentrated fertiliser directly against the plant’s crown.

    Mulching

Use a chunky, free-draining mulch around the plant.

Keep mulch away from the centre of the clump to prevent excess moisture collecting around the crown.

    Annual Pruning

Amethyst™ generally looks best when its old foliage is cut back annually.

Prune close to ground level during late winter, before fresh spring growth becomes established. Remove damaged or discoloured leaves and clear away the cut foliage.

If annual pruning is not possible, new spring and summer growth will gradually cover much of the older foliage.

    Frost and Climate

Amethyst™ tolerates frost, drought and humid conditions once established.

It is suitable for growing throughout New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia, Western Australia, the Australian Capital Territory and the Northern Territory.

Local performance will depend on soil, water availability, exposure and garden care.
