Hippeastrum ‘Table Dance’ Bulb | Red and Cream Amaryllis

Description

Create a bold spring-to-summer display with Hippeastrum ‘Table Dance’, a striking large-flowering variety featuring rich red markings against creamy-white petals.

The broad, overlapping petals create a full and beautifully layered appearance, while a fresh green centre adds further contrast. Its dramatic flowers are carried on sturdy upright stems above glossy, strap-like foliage.

‘Table Dance’ makes an impressive feature in decorative pots, garden beds and cut-flower arrangements.

EXAMPLE IMAGE ONLY: The flower image shows an example of the expected mature bloom. The placement and intensity of the red, cream, white and green colouring may vary naturally according to climate, growing conditions, lighting and bloom maturity. The supplied product is a bulb—not a flowering plant.

Planting Instructions

Plant Hippeastrum ‘Table Dance’ in fertile, free-draining soil or a quality potting mix.

Position the bulb with the roots facing downwards and leave the neck and upper third of the bulb exposed above the soil surface. Avoid burying the entire bulb, as excessive moisture around the neck can encourage rot.

When planting in a container, choose a sturdy pot with generous drainage holes. Hippeastrums generally perform well when fitted reasonably snugly into their pots.

Water lightly after planting. Avoid saturating the soil while the bulb is dormant or before active growth begins.

Planting time will vary according to climate. In many Australian regions, bulbs can be planted from winter into spring. In cold or frost-prone areas, delay outdoor planting until severe frost risk has passed or grow the bulb in a protected container.

Care Instructions

Position

Grow Hippeastrum ‘Table Dance’ in full sun to part shade.

Morning sun with protection from intense late-afternoon heat is suitable in warm Australian climates. Plants grown indoors require a bright position with plenty of natural light.

Insufficient light may produce weak growth and reduced flowering.

Soil and Potting Mix

Use fertile, free-draining soil or a premium potting mix.

Heavy garden soil should be improved with organic matter and drainage material, or the bulb can be planted in a raised bed or container.

Do not allow water to collect around the bulb.

Watering

Water sparingly until active growth appears.

Once leaves and flower stems begin developing, water thoroughly when the upper soil starts drying. Allow excess water to drain freely and do not leave containers standing in water.

Reduce watering as the foliage naturally yellows and the bulb enters dormancy.

Feeding

Apply a balanced bulb or flowering-plant fertiliser once active growth is established.

Continue feeding periodically while the foliage remains healthy and green. The leaves help replenish the bulb and support future flowering.

Follow the fertiliser label directions and avoid placing concentrated fertiliser directly against the bulb.

Flowering

Flowering generally occurs from spring into summer, although exact timing will depend on climate, planting time, bulb maturity, storage and care.

A mature stem may carry approximately four to six flowers under suitable conditions. Individual bulbs may produce different numbers of stems and blooms.

Flowering during the first season cannot be guaranteed.

After Flowering

Remove faded flowers before seed pods develop unless seed production is desired.

Leave the flower stem until it begins yellowing, then cut it back near the base. Retain the green foliage and continue watering and feeding while it remains active.

Do not remove healthy foliage prematurely, as it helps the bulb store energy for future growth and flowering.

Dormancy

Foliage may yellow and die back as the bulb enters dormancy. Reduce watering during this period and keep the bulb comparatively dry.

In warm climates, some Hippeastrums may retain foliage for much of the year. Seasonal behaviour will vary according to climate and growing conditions.

Frost Protection

Hippeastrum ‘Table Dance’ is frost sensitive.

In cold regions, grow it in a movable container or protect the bulb from frost and prolonged cold, wet conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What colour are Hippeastrum ‘Table Dance’ flowers?

The flowers combine creamy-white petals with rich red brushing and markings. A fresh green centre provides additional contrast.

Is ‘Table Dance’ a single or double Hippeastrum?

‘Table Dance’ is classified by the breeder as a large-flowering single Hippeastrum. Its broad, overlapping petals can give the flowers a particularly full and layered appearance.

How many flowers does it produce?

A mature stem may produce approximately four to six flowers under suitable conditions. The number will vary with bulb maturity and care.

How tall does it grow?

Plants generally reach approximately 40–60cm tall. Final height will depend on climate, planting position and growing conditions.

Will the bulb arrive flowering?

No. It is supplied as a bulb and may arrive dormant or with early growth visible. Flowering immediately after planting cannot be guaranteed.

How deeply should I plant the bulb?

Plant with the roots below the soil while leaving the neck and upper third of the bulb exposed. Do not bury the entire bulb.

Can it be grown in a pot?

Yes. Use a sturdy container with drainage holes and a fertile, free-draining potting mix. Hippeastrums generally prefer a reasonably snug pot.

Can it be grown indoors?

It can be grown or displayed indoors in a bright position with plenty of natural light. A dark indoor location is unlikely to support strong long-term growth.

What should I do after flowering?

Remove faded flowers, retain the green foliage and continue watering and feeding during active growth.
