    Planting Instructions

Plant promptly after delivery into a prepared garden position or a larger container.

Choose an open position receiving at least six hours of direct sunlight each day. Olive trees require strong light for healthy growth, flowering and fruit development.

Dig a hole approximately twice as wide as the root ball but no deeper than the root ball itself. Carefully remove the young plant from its 50mm tube without pulling it by the stem or disturbing the roots unnecessarily.

Position the plant at its existing soil level, backfill gently and water thoroughly.

Apply mulch around the planting area to conserve moisture and reduce weed growth, keeping the mulch clear of the young trunk.

Allow adequate room for the tree’s mature size or plan to maintain it at a smaller size through regular pruning.

    Care Instructions

    Position

Grow ‘Nevadillo Blanco’ in full sun.

A warm, open position with good airflow is recommended. Trees grown in excessive shade may develop weak growth and produce fewer flowers and fruit.

    Soil

    Plant in free-draining soil.

Olive trees can tolerate a range of soil types but perform poorly in continually wet or waterlogged ground. Improve heavy clay soil before planting or grow the tree in a raised position.

For containers, use a quality free-draining potting mix and ensure the pot has generous drainage holes.

    Watering

Water regularly while the young tree establishes.

Deep watering encourages the roots to grow into the surrounding soil. Allow the upper soil surface to begin drying between applications.

Once established, olive trees tolerate dry conditions; however, prolonged water stress during flowering and fruit development may reduce fruit set and fruit size.

Container-grown trees require more frequent watering than trees growing in the ground.

    Feeding

Apply a balanced fertiliser suitable for fruiting trees during spring, following the product directions.

Avoid excessive nitrogen, which can encourage vigorous leafy growth at the expense of flowers and fruit.

    Pollination

‘Nevadillo Blanco’ is frequently described as self-compatible and may produce fruit when grown alone.

However, growing another compatible olive cultivar nearby may improve pollination and fruit set. Results depend on flowering overlap, weather, tree maturity and local growing conditions.

No particular crop size can be guaranteed from a single tree.

    Pruning

Prune lightly to develop the desired shape and maintain an open canopy.

Remove dead, damaged, crossing or inward-growing branches. Established trees may also be maintained as hedges, screens, espaliers or smaller garden specimens through regular pruning.

Avoid removing excessive growth from young plants while they are becoming established.

    Climate

The most reliable fruiting generally occurs in climates with cool winters followed by warm, relatively dry summers.

The tree may grow successfully as an ornamental in warmer or humid climates, but flowering and fruit production can be less reliable where winter chill is insufficient or prolonged wet weather occurs during flowering.

    Frost Protection

Established olive trees tolerate frost, but young plants supplied in 50mm tubes are more vulnerable.

Protect newly planted stock from severe frost and cold, drying winds until it has developed stronger roots and woody growth.

    Harvesting and Using the Fruit

Harvest timing depends on the intended use and the local climate.

Green fruit is collected before full ripening, while darker fruit is left on the tree for longer. Fruit intended for oil production is harvested according to the desired balance of oil yield and flavour.

Fresh olives are naturally bitter and must not be eaten directly from the tree. They require suitable curing or processing before consumption.

Use a reputable, tested food-preservation method and maintain appropriate food hygiene throughout curing and storage.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How is the Nevadillo Blanco olive supplied?

It is supplied as a young live plant growing in a 50mm nursery tube. It will require growing and development before reaching the size shown in mature-tree photographs.

Will the plant arrive with olives?

No guarantee can be made that the young plant will arrive flowering or fruiting. Plants supplied in 50mm tubes may require several growing seasons before producing fruit.

Can the olives be eaten directly from the tree?

No. Fresh olives are extremely bitter and must be properly cured or processed before consumption.

    Is Nevadillo Blanco self-fertile?

It is often described as self-compatible and may produce fruit by itself. However, another compatible olive variety nearby may improve pollination and fruit set.

    How large does it grow?

An unpruned tree may reach approximately 6–9m high and 4–6m wide. It can be maintained at a smaller size through regular pruning.

Can it be grown in a pot?

Yes, particularly while young. Choose a large, stable container with generous drainage and gradually increase the pot size as the tree grows. Container-grown olives require regular watering, feeding and pruning.

How much sunlight does it require?

Full sun is strongly recommended. At least six hours of direct sunlight supports healthy growth, flowering and fruit production.

    Is it drought tolerant?

Yes, once established. Young 50mm plants require regular watering, and additional moisture during flowering and fruit development may improve cropping.

Will it produce fruit in a subtropical climate?

The tree can grow in subtropical conditions, but fruiting may be less reliable in warm, humid locations with insufficient winter chill or wet weather during flowering.
