Description
Create a colourful, low-maintenance living carpet with Purple Fusion™ Scaevola, a hardy Australian native groundcover producing an abundance of purple, fan-shaped flowers.
Unlike many Scaevola varieties that develop a rounded or mounding habit, Purple Fusion™ grows in a naturally flat, spreading form. Its prostrate growth can cover approximately 1.5m under suitable conditions, making it an excellent choice for mass planting, slopes, garden borders and other areas requiring broad, low-growing coverage.
Purple Fusion™ is more drought tolerant than many traditional Scaevola varieties and requires relatively little pruning once established. Flowering can occur throughout much of the year in suitable climates, with the strongest display generally appearing during spring and early summer.
SUPPLIED IN A 50MM POT: This product is a young plant supplied in a 50mm nursery pot. The photographs show examples of mature plants only. The plant supplied may not be flowering at the time of dispatch.

Planting Instructions
Plant promptly after delivery into a prepared garden position or larger container.
Choose a position receiving full sun to light shade. Prepare the planting area by removing weeds and loosening compacted soil.
Dig a hole slightly wider than the root ball and approximately the same depth. Carefully remove the young plant from its 50mm nursery pot, minimising disturbance to the roots.
Position the top of the root ball level with the surrounding soil, backfill gently and water thoroughly.
For broad groundcover coverage, allow approximately one to two plants per square metre. Closer planting will provide faster initial coverage, while wider spacing gives each plant more room to spread naturally.
Care Instructions
Position
Grow Purple Fusion™ in full sun to light shade.
Full sun generally encourages denser growth and stronger flowering. Light shade is tolerated, although excessive shade may result in looser growth and fewer flowers.
In exceptionally hot climates, temporary protection from intense afternoon sun may benefit young 50mm plants while their roots establish.
Soil
Purple Fusion™ adapts to a wide range of soil types.
For best results, plant in improved soil that drains adequately after rain or irrigation. Avoid positions that remain continually waterlogged.
When growing in containers, use a quality, free-draining potting mix and ensure the container has generous drainage holes.
Watering
Water regularly during the first 8–13 weeks after planting or until the root system is established.
Keep the root zone lightly moist without leaving the soil continually saturated. Once established, Purple Fusion™ becomes drought tolerant and generally requires supplementary watering only during extended dry periods.
Plants growing in pots will require more frequent watering than those established in garden soil.
Mulching
Apply a layer of chunky organic mulch around the plant to reduce moisture loss and suppress weeds.
Keep mulch clear of the crown and young stems. Avoid fine mulch forming a continually wet layer directly against the plant.
Feeding
Apply a suitable controlled-release fertiliser during spring, following the product directions.
Use a fertiliser suitable for Australian native plants and avoid excessive feeding. Heavy fertiliser applications can encourage soft growth at the expense of compact flowering performance.
Pruning
Purple Fusion™ naturally develops a flatter growth habit and generally requires less pruning than mounding Scaevola varieties.
Trim once a year, or as required, to remove damaged growth and maintain the desired coverage. Avoid cutting young or heat-stressed plants back heavily.
Hot and Humid Climates
Purple Fusion™ is suitable for subtropical regions, including Northern NSW and Queensland.
Provide adequate spacing and airflow, particularly during periods of high rainfall and humidity. Avoid continually wet soil and irrigate early enough for wet foliage to dry before evening.
Frost Protection
Established plants tolerate cold conditions, but heavy frost may damage flowers and temporarily interrupt flowering.
Young plants supplied in 50mm pots are more vulnerable than established specimens. Protect them from severe frost and cold, drying winds during establishment.
