How to Use
-
Select a level position with reliable drainage.
-
Open the planter bag and shape the base before filling.
-
Add a suitable free-draining potting or growing medium.
-
Fill gradually, gently shaping the bag as you work.
-
Leave sufficient space below the rim for watering.
-
Position the plant at the correct depth.
-
Backfill around the roots and firm the mix gently.
-
Water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain.
-
Check the moisture level regularly while the plant establishes.
Avoid using ordinary garden soil by itself, as it may compact, drain poorly and become extremely heavy inside a container.
Positioning the Bag
Choose the final growing position before filling the larger sizes. A filled 75L or 100L planter bag can become extremely heavy, particularly after watering.
Place the bag on a firm, level and free-draining surface. Avoid locations where the base will remain continually submerged or where runoff may cause staining or damage.
If growing on paving, decking or another sensitive surface, use an appropriate protective base and allow space for drainage.
Watering
Water requirements will vary according to the plant, bag size, growing medium, climate and position.
The woven sides may allow the growing medium to dry more quickly than it would in a solid plastic pot. Check moisture regularly during hot, dry or windy weather.
Water slowly and thoroughly, ensuring the entire root zone is moistened. Avoid keeping the growing medium continually saturated.
Feeding
Use a fertiliser appropriate for the plant being grown.
A controlled-release fertiliser can be incorporated into fresh potting mix according to its label directions. Additional liquid feeding may be beneficial during active growth.
Avoid over-fertilising, particularly when growing young or recently transplanted plants.
Moving Filled Bags
The integrated handles assist with positioning and handling, but filled bags can be very heavy.
-
Avoid dragging the bag across rough surfaces
-
Do not lift using only one handle
-
Support the base whenever practical
-
Use two people or suitable lifting equipment for larger bags
-
Avoid moving bags immediately after heavy watering
-
Inspect the material, seams and handles before lifting
-
Never attempt to lift a weight beyond your capacity

Frequently Asked Questions
What are the planter bags made from?
They are made from heavy-duty woven HDPE, or high-density polyethylene.
Do the bags have handles?
Yes. Each size is manufactured with integrated carry handles to assist with positioning and handling.
Do I need to make drainage holes?
The woven construction allows water to escape through the material. Always use a free-draining growing medium and place the bag where excess water can drain away.
Can these bags be reused?
They may be reused when the material, seams and handles remain in good condition. Clean the bag, allow it to dry and inspect it carefully before replanting.
Can trees be grown in them?
Yes. The larger sizes are suitable for growing and holding many trees and shrubs. The correct size will depend on the species, root system and intended growing period.
Which size should I choose?
Use the 25L size for smaller or younger plants, the 45L for developing trees and larger shrubs, and the 75L or 100L sizes for advanced plants requiring substantially more root space.
Can I move the bag after it has been filled?
Yes, but larger filled bags may be extremely heavy. Support the base and use two people, a trolley or appropriate lifting equipment where necessary.
Can the planter bag be placed directly on soil?
Yes, but roots may eventually grow through the woven material and into the ground. Move or rotate the bag periodically if this is not desired.
