Tissue culture testing shows ‘LM604’ produces approximately 15% more basal shoots, resulting in better establishment vigour, improved propagation, excellent nursery pot growth, and the ability to tolerate extreme, hard cutbacks. Growing 500–600mm high and 650mm wide, it is highly reliable for mass planting, erosion control, and low-maintenance native landscapes.

Planting Instructions

• Choose a position in full sun to moderate shade.

• Dig a hole slightly wider than the root ball and plant at the same depth as the growing medium in the supplied pot. The crown (base of the plant) must remain at or slightly above the surrounding soil level.

• Do not bury the crown beneath soil or mulch, as this can increase the risk of crown rot and poor establishment.

• Backfill gently, firm the soil around the roots, and water thoroughly.

• For mass planting, allow 3–6 plants per square metre. For borders and linear planting, use 2–3 plants per linear metre.

• Apply chunky mulch around the plant while keeping the crown completely uncovered.

Care Instructions

Position Grow Tanika® Lomandra in full sun to moderate shade. It thrives across most of southern and western Australia, as well as non-humid elevated regions of Queensland (such as Toowoomba). It is not recommended for highly humid, tropical coastal zones.

Soil Tanika® adapts to a wide variety of soil types, including sandy soils, loams, and heavier clay, provided it is planted correctly with the crown exposed.

Watering Water as required for the first 8–13 weeks after planting while the root system establishes. Once established, Tanika® exhibits extreme drought tolerance and rarely requires supplementary watering except during exceptionally prolonged, severe dry spells.

Feeding Apply a suitable slow-release native plant fertiliser during spring if required. Follow the fertiliser label directions and avoid placing concentrated fertiliser directly against the crown.

Mulching Apply a layer of chunky mulch to help retain soil moisture and reduce weed growth. Keep the mulch completely clear of the base and crown. Fine mulch packed around the centre of the plant can hold excessive moisture and cause rot.

Pruning The improved ‘LM604’ genetics provide an exceptional response to hard pruning. Every 3–10 years, cut the plant hard above ground level if it becomes untidy. For high-presentation landscapes or designer gardens, pruning approximately every three years maintains a fresher, more uniform appearance. It is highly suited to machine-efficient pruning on commercial sites.
