Product Details

Bring bold contrast and seasonal colour to your home, patio or garden with Charisma Hippeastrum, a striking flowering bulb known for its large white blooms, vivid red edges and deep red throat. With its dramatic star-like colouring, Charisma is a standout variety for pots, indoor displays, protected garden beds and cut flower arrangements.

Commonly searched for as Amaryllis, these flowering bulbs are botanically Hippeastrums. Hippeastrum ‘Charisma’ produces large trumpet-shaped flowers with a clean white base and strong red markings, creating a bright, eye-catching display that looks beautiful in both modern and classic settings.

Growing to approximately 45–50cm tall, Charisma is ideal for gardeners wanting strong colour without needing a large garden space. It performs beautifully in pots and can also be grown outdoors in suitable frost-protected positions with good drainage.

Supplied as a dormant bulb, Charisma can be planted from July to October in full sun to partial shade. Plant with the bulb neck slightly exposed above the soil surface and enjoy impressive blooms around 6–10 weeks after planting, depending on climate and growing conditions.

Planting & Care

Plant Charisma Hippeastrum bulbs from July to October in a position with full sun to partial shade. In warmer climates, morning sun with afternoon shade can help protect flowers and foliage from harsh heat.

Choose a free-draining soil or quality potting mix. If planting in the garden, loosen the soil to around 20cm deep and improve drainage if needed. Hippeastrums dislike sitting in heavy, wet soil, especially while dormant.

Plant with the fat end and roots facing down, leaving the neck of the bulb slightly exposed above the soil surface. Do not bury the bulb completely. In pots, the top third of the bulb may remain above the potting mix.

Use a pot with good drainage holes and a quality, free-draining potting mix. Avoid oversized pots that hold too much moisture around the bulb.

Water lightly after planting, then increase watering once active growth appears. Allow the soil or potting mix to dry slightly between waterings. Avoid overwatering, especially before strong root and leaf growth develops.

Feed during active growth with a balanced bulb fertiliser or pelletised chicken manure to support strong stems, healthy foliage and future flowering.

Protect from frost, especially in colder regions or when grown in pots. In frost-prone areas, Charisma is best grown in pots so it can be moved under cover if needed.

After flowering, remove the spent flower stem but leave the foliage to continue growing. The leaves help the bulb store energy for the next flowering cycle. Reduce watering as the plant naturally moves towards dormancy.
