Description

Pink Princess Philodendron is a striking indoor foliage plant grown for its deep green, burgundy and dark purple leaves with naturally occurring pink variegation. Each plant is unique, with leaf colour and variegation varying from plant to plant.

Botanically known as Philodendron erubescens ‘Pink Princess’, this popular collector plant is best grown indoors in bright, indirect light or outdoors in a warm, protected, shaded position. It suits pots, plant shelves, patios, indoor displays and tropical-style collections.

Supplied as a young plant in a 50mm pot.

Variegation Note

Pink variegation cannot be guaranteed.

Pink Princess variegation is naturally unstable and random. Some plants may show strong pink colouring, while others may have lighter flecking, darker leaves or reduced variegation.

Highly variegated leaves contain less chlorophyll, which means they may grow more slowly and can be more prone to browning or damage.

Plant Size Note

Supplied as a young live plant in a 50mm pot.

Plants in 50mm pots are small starter plants and will require growing time before reaching the size shown in mature example images.

Leaf size, colour, variegation, height and growth stage will vary naturally between individual plants.

Light

Pink Princess grows best in bright, indirect light.

Good light helps support stronger growth and may encourage better colour. Avoid harsh direct sun, especially hot midday sun, as this can scorch the leaves.

Indoors, place near a bright window with filtered light. A small amount of gentle morning sun may be suitable if the plant is gradually acclimatised.

Low light can reduce growth and may lead to duller colour or weaker variegation.

Watering

Keep the potting mix lightly moist but never soggy.

Allow the top layer of mix to dry slightly before watering again. Water thoroughly, then let excess water drain away.

Do not allow the pot to sit in water.

Avoid letting the mix dry out completely for long periods, especially while the plant is small.

Soil and Repotting

Use a chunky, free-draining indoor plant mix.

A suitable mix may include quality potting mix with added perlite, orchid bark or similar drainage material.

Do not rush to repot immediately after delivery unless the plant is clearly struggling in its current pot. Allow the plant time to settle first.

When repotting, move up gradually into a slightly larger pot rather than placing a small plant into an oversized container.

Temperature and Humidity

Pink Princess prefers warm, stable conditions.

Ideal temperatures are approximately 16–29°C.

It enjoys higher humidity, but good airflow is still important. Keep away from cold draughts, heaters, air conditioners and frost.

This plant is frost sensitive and should be protected from cold weather.

Fertilising

Feed during spring and summer while the plant is actively growing.

Use a balanced indoor plant fertiliser at the recommended rate. Reduce or stop fertilising during winter or when growth slows.

Do not fertilise immediately after shipping or repotting. Allow the plant time to settle first.

Outdoor Growing

Pink Princess can be grown outdoors in warm, humid, frost-free climates in a protected position.

Choose bright shade or filtered light with well-drained soil or potting mix.

Avoid direct afternoon sun, cold winds and waterlogged conditions.

Pet Safety

Philodendrons are toxic to pets if eaten.

Keep this plant away from dogs, cats and other pets that chew plants. The sap may also irritate skin or mouths, so handle with care and wash hands after pruning or repotting.

Important Note

Images show example plants only.

You will receive a young plant in a 50mm pot. Variegation, leaf colour, size and pattern will vary naturally.

Pink variegation cannot be guaranteed. Some plants may have strong pink colour, while others may show lighter flecking or mostly green/burgundy foliage.

Plants may show minor cosmetic marks from growing, packing or transport. Allow your plant time to settle after delivery before repotting or fertilising.

After Delivery Care

Unpack your plant as soon as possible.

Check the potting mix. Water lightly if dry, then place the plant in bright, indirect light away from harsh sun.

Do not repot or fertilise immediately unless necessary. Give the plant time to adjust to its new environment.

A yellow leaf or minor shipping stress can occur after transit and does not always mean the plant is failing.

Biosecurity and Shipping

State, territory and regional biosecurity restrictions may apply to live plants.

Please check whether this plant can be sent to your delivery address before ordering.

Orders placed for restricted destinations may need to be cancelled and refunded. Biosecurity requirements may change without notice.

FAQ

What size plant will I receive?
You will receive a young Pink Princess Philodendron in a 50mm pot.

Will my plant have pink variegation?
Variegation cannot be guaranteed. Pink colouring varies naturally between plants and leaves.

Why are highly pink leaves slower growing?
Pink sections contain less chlorophyll, so highly variegated leaves contribute less energy to the plant.

What light does it need?
Bright, indirect light is best. Avoid harsh direct sun.

Can I grow it outdoors?
Yes, in warm, frost-free climates in a protected, shaded position.

How often should I water it?
Water when the surface of the mix begins to dry. Keep lightly moist but not soggy.

Why are the leaves browning?
Common causes include too much sun, low humidity, watering issues, stress after shipping or very high variegation.

Why are the leaves curling?
Curling is often linked to watering stress. Check whether the mix is too dry or staying too wet.

Is Pink Princess pet-safe?
No. Philodendrons are toxic to pets if eaten.
